Phases of Design

HMA guides you through each step of the design process, making it simple and understandable. For those who enjoy looking under the hood a little more, here are the specific phases in our approach.

Programming

This initial phase involves understanding the client's requirements, budget, and goals. It may include site analysis, feasibility studies, and cost analysis to determine the project's scope.

Schematic design (SD)

Our architects create rough sketches and drawings to explore and illustrate possible options. The focus is on the general layout, form, and overall appearance of the building.

Design development (DD)

This phase refines the schematic designs into a clearer and more detailed set of drawings and renderings. Materials, textures, and colors are considered, and more precise cost estimates are provided.

Construction Documentation (CD)

Detailed drawings and specifications for the construction of the building are produced. These documents serve as legal instructions for contractors on building materials, finishes, and techniques.

Construction Administration (CA)

Our designers frequently visit the construction site to ensure that the project is being built according to plans and specifications. They also manage any changes that might occur during construction.
